Claire Meghnagi made impressive series of débuts at the world's most prestigious venues with Les Arts Florissants conducted by William Christie, at their 2007 Jardin des Voix tour. Her performances were received by international critical acclaim, pointing her out as "the most promising singing of the evening", her "radiant voice" and "silvery gleam" and her "inspired, luminous and carnal interpretation". For her performance at the Lincoln center the New York Times wrote "Claire Meghnagi had the most strikingly operatic sound, in terms of projection, power and suppleness, qualities she put to superb use in the Prologue from Monteverdi's 'Orfeo'..."
Ms. Meghnagi made her critically acclaimed debut as Tullia in Bononcini's Il Trionfo de Camilla in Boston. Other roles include Le Feu/La Princesse (L'enfant et les sortilèges), The Granddaughter (contemporary opera And The Rat Laughed) with the Israeli Chamber Orchestra in Israel and Poland, Zerlina (Don Giovanni) with Haifa Symphony Orchestra and Night/ The Plaint/ Chinese Woman (Purcell The Fairy Queen) for The Barrocade ensemble. For The New Israeli Opera she sang La Bergère in Gluck's Armide, followed by her first Despina (Cosi Fan Tutte), and Prima Cercatrice (Suor Angelica). For the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, she covered First Innocent at the world premiere of H. Birtwistle's The Minotaur.
Her operatic repertoire includes Susanna (Le Nozze di Figaro), Ilia (Idomeneo), Pamina (Die Zauberflöte), Euridice (Orfeo ed Euridice), Cleopatra (Giulio Cesare in Egitto), Galatea (Acis and Galatea), Morgana (Alcina), Norina (Don Pasquale), Thérèse/Tiresias (Les mamelles de Tirésias) and Anne Trulove (The Rake's Progress).
An experienced concert singer, she has been a guest with Israel's leading orchestras, interpreting, among others, Bach's Matthaeus-Passion, Handel's Gloria, Dixit Dominus and Silete venti, Mozart's Missa in C minor, Faure's Requiem, Mendelssohn's Psalms, Mahler 4th Symphony, Brahms' Ein Deutsches Requiem and Poulenc's Gloria. She made her debut with the Israeli Philharmonic Orchestra singing arias from Mendelssohn's Elias, and gave a highly acclaimed performance of Handel's Messiah under the baton of Laurence Cummings at the Israeli Opera. With Les Arts Florissants she sang at the Lincoln Center, Barbican center, Frankfurt's Alte Oper, Palais de Beaux-Arts in Brussels, Auditorio Nacional de Madrid and Lisbonne's Gulbenkian. Other concert appearances include the Israel Festival, The Israel Philharmonic Ensemble, Jerusalem Symphony and the Israel Camerata Jerusalem, Felicja Blumental and Abu-Gosh festivals, The Académie Européenne de Musique of the Aix-en-Provence festival. A devoted performer of contemporary music, she performed world premieres of Israeli composers Oded Zehavi, Ella Milch-Sheriff, Gil Shohat and others.
Claire represented Israel at the prestigious BBC Cardiff Singer of the World 2009 competition, performing with the WNO Orchestra and Paul Daniel. Her performance was received with great enthusiasm for her musical qualities and invigorative repertoire choises.
Plans for 2010-2011 include Galatea Acis and Galatea at the Burgarena Reinsberg with Martin Haselboek and stage director Michael Sturminger, her debut at London's Wigmore Hall singing Purcell's Fairy Queen with the Retrospect Ensemble and Matthew Halls, return to the Israeli Opera to sing Euridice (Orfeo ed Euridice) with David Stern, as well as gala concert with Les Arts Florissants and William Christie at the Opera Comique. She will sing her first Susanna Le Nozze di Figaro for Opera Holland Park in London during the summer of 2011. Concerts will include Handel's Messiah with the Ulster Symphony Orchestra conducted by Martin Haselboeck, Israel in Egypt with the Jerusalem Symphony and David Stern, and recitals alongside her husband, cellist Zvi Orlianski and her father, cantor Isacco Meghnagi.
Graduated from the Rubin Academy of Music in Tel-Aviv, she continued her studies in Boston and New-York. She won scholarships from the America-Israel cultural foundation, the Israel Vocal Arts Institute and the New England Conservatory. Her concerts were recorded for BBC3, ARTE, Israeli Broadcasting Authority, and for the French television and radio. She also appears at the French TV documentary Baroque Academie - the Jardin des Voix 2007 tour.
